Wong Tai-Kwong doesn't know much about martial arts and seems doomed to a life of getting beaten up by martial artists. Action-god Jackie Chan does his best James Bond impression with this ecstatic sequel to the classic Supercop. The bare-bones plot has Chan in pursuit of international terrorists, but the narrative quickly gives way to an unceasing barrage of insane stunt work (including a nitro-fueled ski chase and a grandiose fight scene set inside a functioning shark tank). As with most of the aging star's recent films, there is more of an emphasis placed on big, impersonal (albeit impressive) stunts rather than the close-up combat that made him famous; but the end result is still a must-see rush for longtime fans, and a great introduction for newcomers eager to see what all the well-deserved fuss is about. The scene where Jackie takes on multiple goons while armed only with a ladder is one of his most jaw-dropping set pieces ever--and that's saying quite a lot. Be sure to stick around for the closing credits of gags gone awry, which graphically prove that Chan is truly the hardest working man in show business. --Andrew Wright

The cock-eyed crime-busters from My Lucky Stars take a break in Thailand after triumphing in their previous case. Their vacation is cut short when they have to rush back to Hong Kong as they learn that Thai assassins are on the way to kill a Hong Kong drug lord. This lunatic action comedy from HK action slapstick master Sammo Hung contains plenty of good fight sequences, plenty of silly but hilarious comedy and plenty of girl chasing by the crimebusting clowns. Michelle Yeoh does a cameo appearance, and performs her first onscreen fight against Sammo Hung. Sammo really delivers in this one; The end fight sequence is a lot of fun.

Though Jackie Chan is billed as the star of The Prisoner, he's actually part of a stellar ensemble cast including Sammo Hung (Dragons Forever, TV's Martial Law), Andy Lau (Saviour of the Soul), and Tony Leung Ka-fai (The Lover). Leung plays a cop who goes undercover in a prison to dig out corruption; Hung is a roustabout prisoner who keeps breaking out to see his son; Chan plays a pool shark who accidentally kills a gambler; and Lau is that gambler's mob boss brother who's sworn to kill Chan. They all end up in the same prison, resulting in a complex, engrossing, and sometimes brutal story--think of it as the Hong Kong version of HBO's Oz. Which is not to say it isn't full of the bizarre narrative shifts that make Hong Kong movies such a perverse pleasure: Chan got into a fight with this gambler because he was trying to raise money to buy his dying girlfriend a black-market liver; at one point, Hung escapes and takes his son to the park, where they buy cotton candy and have some quality time; and at the end the whole movie takes a bizarre lurch into John Woo-style gunplay spectacle. This isn't a criticism--this crazy quilt of emotional tones and genres adds to the movie's entertainment value without detracting from the emotional power of some gripping scenes of prison conflict. For new Jackie Chan fans who've seen his American movies and want to learn more about why he's one of the biggest stars in the world, this is probably not the right place to start; but for anyone looking to experience more of one of the world's most exuberant and engaging bodies of cinema, The Prisoner offers jolting fights and hairpin twists and turns. --Bret Fetzer

An enjoyable sequel to the 1984 gag-fest Winners and Sinners. Jackie Chan and an assortment of his pals (martial artists and comedians) make like the Rat Pack in this knockabout kung fu romp filmed in Japan in 1985. Undercover cop Chan, with partner Yuen Biao, has been stranded in Nippon, and Sammo Hung's gang of slapstick cutthroats, the Lucky Stars, is sprung from the pokey to get them back. The middle hour is all lame comedy, including a lewd and decidedly un-politically correct routine in a hotel room in which the boys fall all over each trying to catch a glimpse of girl in the shower. At one point the horse-faced veteran comic Richard Ng (from the Mr. Vampire films) tries to hypnotize a duck. Toward the end there's finally some effective, body-slamming action, the high point of which is Sammo's face-off with the eye-popping female body builder Michiko Nishiwaki. --David Chute

Jackie Chan, acting as writer and director as well as star, was quick to follow up the huge success of his contemporary action hit Police Story with a film that, despite a number of excellent action sequences, comes off as second-rate Jackie. Busted down to motorcycle cop due to his unconventional tactics and tremendous property damage, Jackie finds himself the target of the vengeful mobster he put out of business in the first film while simultaneously hunting down a team of bomb-happy extortionists and trying to salvage his unraveling love life (poor Maggie Cheung, who winds up almost as bruised and battered as Jackie). Jackie is chased by radio-controlled cars armed with bombs (à la The Dead Pool), ambushed in a playground in a terrifically choreographed tour-de-force where he single-handedly battles a dozen armed baddies while leaping through a jungle gym of obstacles, and makes his last stand in a fireworks warehouse just itching for a light. The generic story generates little interest and even the half-hearted slapstick misses the spark of his better work (such as the spectacular, stunt-filled follow-up Supercop), but Jackie is magic on the screen, a gymnastic dynamo with the clean-cut charm of the boy next door. The postfilm montage of outtakes is a painful reminder not to try these stunts at home. The American version features a rock-tinged score and sloppier dubbing than usual. TV chef Jackie Chan is involuntarily involved in a gang war between stereotypical Italians and punkers right out of A Clockwork Orange. Most of the cast is in a coma, and the plot is stupid, stupid, stupid. The reason to watch this is for Chan's gravity-defying stunts as he is chased through the streets of Melbourne by Aussie thugs trying to relocate missing cocaine. Chan is so innovative with his tricks that it is a shame he doesn't work with more intelligent material. Still, his fans should enjoy this slight adventure, as Chan's carefully choreographed martial art moves are as awesome as ever. Watch for a stunt involving a horse-drawn carriage, as it almost compensates for the lackluster story line. --Rochelle O'Gorman

High-octane gas, pumped out by the buoyant maestro of Hong Kong action, Jackie Chan. In this outing, the irrepressible Chan plays a Hong Kong cop teamed up (gloriously) with a Chinese inspector played by Michelle Yeoh (a.k.a. Michelle Khan). The plot ranges all over Southeast Asia, culminating with Jackie hanging from a helicopter ladder high over the streets of Kuala Lumpur. This one's notable for the ingenuity of the stunts, and for allowing two of Asia's top female stars to do their bad thing. The great Maggie Cheung (Chinese Box) plays Chan's girlfriend, who has a tendency to pop up at the most inopportune moments; and Yeoh executes a hair-raising motorcycle jump onto a moving train--an absolute jaw-dropper. Originally released as Police Story III, the picture was rereleased in America as Supercop in 1996, after Chan's U.S. breakthrough with Rumble in the Bronx. The new version is slightly shorter than the original, and features a new soundtrack of English-language dialogue (awkwardly dubbed, but that's par for the course) and blaring rock music. Great fun any way you slice it, and--for the uninitiated--a terrific introduction to the humorous, high-kicking world of Jackie Chan. --Robert Horton

Reviewer: A viewer (Kansas City, USA) If you are a fan of Jackie Chan's early movies, you'll like this one. I thought it was interesting, because it reminded me so much of an old Western. Instead of the unbeatable gunfighter, you have the unbeatable kung fu fighter(Jackie). It's also interesting to see Chan as the invincible tough guy, instead of the underdog. I even kind of liked the plot-Jackie gets blackmailed into fighting for the bad guys in order to procur medicine for his foster-Mother. Mostly your typical avenge-the-death-of-my-master stuff, but some good fight scenes, especially the ending, a kind of kung-fu version of the shoot out at the OK Corral. (Oh, by the way, if you're new to the genre, the dubbing is awful, but you get used to it!)

A 1976 novelty item for Jackie Chan completists only; he plays one of his rare costume roles, and his only bad guy. The star is Jimmy Wang Yu (One Armed Swordsman) as Hero Mei, a freelance warrior whose top-secret weapons are explosive projectiles known as killer meteors. Mei is hired by the so-called "Immortal Meteor," Hua Wa-bin (Chan), to eliminate his pesky wife, who (Hua claims) is plotting to kill him. There are some clever, gimmicky fight sequences and some amusingly far-fetched weaponry. A couple of glamorous sword-fighting women are also involved, as is a potion called the Pulverizing Drug, which melts people into puddles, like vampires exposed to sunlight. But there's so much plot to get through (adapted from a lengthy serial novel by Gu Long), and so many long-winded explanations to plow through that none of the characters have much free time for fighting. The movie plays both as hard-boiled (with everybody betraying everybody else) and as a medieval Chinese conspiracy yarn: kung fu Robert Ludlum. --David Chute

This classic Jackie Chan picture opens with one of the wildest police action set pieces ever filmed, an extended chase that includes the total destruction of a hillside shanty settlement, as fleeing crooks and pursing cops crash down through it with their vehicles. Overall, however, the picture is an awkward mixture of clashing elements. At first it is a little strange seeing Chan playing it (mostly) straight in a hard-edged police thriller. The fights are all extremely ferocious and real-looking, without the lighthearted slapstick stylization that leavens his best period vehicles, like Project A, Part II. The comedy elements (especially a recurrent cake-in-the-face gag) seem to come out of nowhere; they are no longer integral to the spirit of the movie. Melbourne, Australia. TV Journalist Diana tapes evidence against drug lord Giancarlo, but on her way away from the scene, she is spotted and has to run. ±8± Best Buy I just saw Rush Hour 3 for the first time on TBS, and as a fan of the far superior first two installments, I rather enjoyed the latest outing.

Sure, it has had critics on its release in 2007, and its box office hammered, while robust not live up to the expectations set by his predecessor. Granted, the plot rather thin, and the series no longer has the new car smell of the first film.

But for me it was fun to see Jackie Chan and ChrisTucker in action again. Chan in Hong Kong Inspector Lee and Tucker's LAPD Detective Carter to a great action-comedy buddy-cop duo. In fact, they are my favorite such pair. They still have great chemistry and play each other very well. They are as funny in this film, as in the first two, particularly since more in the outtakes.

Series director Brett Ratner is not splashed behind the camera with. He has made another brilliant, Globetrotter affair with Carter andLee pursuit of the deadly Chinese Triad gang from Los Angeles to Paris. There, our heroes run into conflict with a crazy French policeman by Roman Polanski played in the city to get around in wild chase through a local taxi driver, his lifelong fantasy as American super spy met rounded up and face on the bad guys in a spectacular climax showdown the Eiffel Tower. If you have the first two films, this is also worth adding to your collection.

Rush Hour 2 retains the appeal of its popular predecessor, so it's easily recommended to fans of its returning stars, Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan. The action--and there's plenty of it--starts in Hong Kong, where Detective Lee (Chan) and his L.A. counterpart Detective Carter (Tucker) are attempting a vacation, only to get assigned to sleuth a counterfeiting scheme involving a triad kingpin (John Lone), his lethal henchwoman (Zhang Ziyi, from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), and an American billionaire (Alan King). Director Brett Ratner simply lets his stars strut their stuff, so it hardly matters that the plot is disposable, or that his direction is so bland he could've phoned it in from a Jacuzzi.

At its best, Rush Hour 2 compares favorably to Chan's glossiest Hong Kong hits, and when the action moves to Las Vegas (where Don Cheadle makes an unbilled cameo), the movie goes into high-pitched hyperdrive, riding an easy wave of ambitious stuntwork and broad, derivative humor. Echoes of Beverly Hills Cop are too loud, however, and stale ideas (including a comedic highlight for Jeremy Piven as a gay clothier) are made even more aggravating by dialogue that's almost Neanderthal in its embrace of retro-racial stereotypes. Of course, that's what makes Rush Hour 2 a palatable dish of mainstream comedy; it insults and comforts the viewer at the same time, and while some may find Tucker's relentless hamming unbearable, those who enjoyed Rush Hour are sure to appreciate another dose of Chan-Tucker lunacy. --Jeff Shannon

This early film of Jackie Chan's was meant to shepherd him into the '70s kung fu genre pantheon made internationally popular by Bruce Lee. Indirectly it did, but probably more out of positioning than performance. Chan was to assume Lee's position as kung fu superstar, made evident by his role in New Fist of Fury (1976), the somewhat clunky chop-socky sequel to The Chinese Connection (on which Chan had worked as a stunt man). Directed by Wei Lo, New Fist of Fury picks up with two siblings fleeing a Japanese-occupied Shanghai for Taiwan, where their grandfather runs a Kung Fu school. However, a Japanese martial arts teacher has plans to run all the schools under his own name, eventually killing the grandfather. Chan plays a young thief who, at first, wants nothing to do with fighting but then finds his calling as the new leader of rebels against the Japanese occupation. Chan of course is no Bruce Lee (although during one dramatic sequence, a still of Lee is cut into the frame to "remind" viewers of the filmmakers' intentions) but New Fist of Fury marks Chan's first entry as a leading actor in Hong Kong action films. --Shannon Gee

Though it wasn't Jackie Chan's first film, Drunken Master is the film that cemented his stardom. Jackie plays the rebellious son of a kung fu master. To teach Jackie the value of discipline, his father apprentices him to another master named So Hi, who has a unique "drunken" fighting style. ±8± Best Buy This is not cheesy, that updated Legend of the Drunken Master with Jackie Chan. This is the old school epic one that beats almost every other kung-fu movie made in that time. It is a cornerstone in Kung-Fu flicks with the 5 Deadly Venoms, Enter the Dragon. But where are the 2 that I mentioned are serious in tone, Drunken Master is an epic slapstick kung-fu comedy. Jacky will play a trouble making brat and is punished by his father, his uncle, Simon Yuen (Drunken Master) taught.But he insisted at first but when he played a badass named Thunderleg of Hwang Jang Lee, who wipes the floor with him, learning he makes his promise, the Drunken Fist. I will not ruin the rest but this film goes to some of the most fun and epic battle scenes. Directed by Simon Yuen Yuen Woo Ping's son, you know that this film is a classic. The inspired pairing of Jackie Chan and British comedian Lee Evans (Funny Bones) gives The Medallion some extra oomph. Hong Kong agent Eddie Yang (Chan) flies to Ireland to track down a very bad guy named Snakehead (Julian Sands, Warlock, exuding his dependable oily menace) who has kidnapped a young boy with the power of life and death. When Eddie dies protecting the boy, the boy resurrects him with a magical medallion--and when Eddie comes back, he's got supernatural powers, much to the befuddlement of his former partner, Arthur (Evans). Along for the ride is Eddie's old flame, Nicole (Claire Forlani, Mystery Men), wearing tight outfits and delivering high kicks. Chan has lost the astonishing elasticity of his youth, but he's still spry enough pull some dazzling moves, and Evans is just amazingly funny. ±8± Best Buy Apart from other reviewers who seem to have it in this movie, I actually enjoyed more. Granted, I agree that the dub was pretty so-so and a bit kitschy. But, well, it's a Jackie Chan movie! Did we really expect Citizen Kane?

I thought the action was good, and generally enjoyed. Sure, the Rogue is a bit over-the-top, and the plot premise was a bit hard to believe (not entirely dissimilar to the premise of The Golden Child with Eddie Murphy), but then again, if theonce not the case in a Jackie Chan movie?

In all, I like the movie. Maybe not so much like The Forbidden Kingdom. The myth or the Rush Hour series. But I figure it's another decent Jackie Chan movie. Happy to have it in the collection. on Sale!

Supercop is the 3rd Jackie Chan's Police Story installment of the series and Supercop easily rates as my favorite of the series and possibly myFavorite movie that Jackie Chan has made. Supercop is one of those movies you can just sit back and have a good time. The plot is simple and often takes a backseat to some truly amazing action sequence. We have some really great characters as well and this is the kind of movie you can just sit back and enjoy the ride.

As with most Jackie Chan films Supercop has a lot of humor and most of the comedy comes in the fight scenes. In a moment you Chan in awethe fight scenes and the next you leave laughing. It's really hard to pick what movie the best action sequences in a Jackie Chan movie, but vote Supercop was one of his best though. And this time, Michelle Yeoh, the series is recorded. And what I love is in contrast to Chan and Jet Li, Michelle Yeoh not to train as these two. Michelle Yeoh is not nearly as trained as Chan or Li, but she has two movies completed and held her own, and in many ways may shinelighter than she was. Even in her American films in which she worked alongside some big stars they shines brighter.

As much as I love Jackie Chan and Supercop, Michelle Yeoh, for me that stands here was clear. I loved her character and she also does her own stunts, some as dangerous as the one that has Jackie Chan and when injured they get up again and makes it again. She is one tough chick and again she manages to keep their own database and to steal the show. MaggieCheung returns May and I love your scenes with Jackie Chan. The two work so well together and Cheung and Chan together are really a highlight of the entire Police Story films. And even more depth to Chan's character.

The screenplay by Edward Tang, Fibe Ma & Lee Wai Yee is also written in terms of action flicks, usually the movies and Chan did not feature a strong plot. In general, the act is simply there as a way to get the action scenes and one can actuallysometimes may forget the plot. The script is poorly written at all, the characters are excellent and great fun, but the story would have touched a bit, but also with the weak plot does not do a single time it hurt the film.

Directed by Stanley Tong makes a solid job here, his scenes were good, often funny and always action. Tong While not the desired default type action movie and in many respects very like Hollywood, Supercop is always fun. Any break in the actionto be with funny moments. Stanley Tong has advanced the pace and never let things slow down and has to deliver some good action scenes.

Supercop is not a perfect film as I said, I is the plot a little weak, the film does not hurt, but a stronger action would have made the film even better. Jackie Chan is one of my favorite action stars, but in general my only complaint with his films is usually the weak plotting. I would really love to see him in a film thathas a strong action like a lot of Jet Li's films in Hong Kong. But once again hurt the weak plot and not the film Supercop is very entertaining and the film is an excellent and steady pace and is never too slow.

It's hard to say that Jackie Chan movie is my favorite, but again I would think I would go with Supercop, Jackie Chan and Michelle Yeoh are working great together and this movie has me totally in love to Michelle Yeoh.

The DVD from Dragon Dynasty isexcellent, the picture and sound quality is top notch and the 2nd CD includes interviews and they are really great. This DVD is a must for fans of Jackie Chan and Michelle Yeoh's. on Sale!

±8± Best Buy "Rob-B-Hood (Bo bui gai wak) has the misadventures of three ne'er-do-wells Fong (Jackie Chan), Octopus (Louis Koo) and Landlord (Michael Hui), which is a new job at a gangster the worst day of her life mapped. The lucrative job involved kidnapping a baby, but, because of their slight errors gambling and womanizing bachelor Fong Octopus forced to take care of the baby on her own.

"Rob-B-Hood" is a Jackie Chan movie, which means it contains measures. Although theFilm has several above average action sequences, Chan and director Benny Chan is more interested in character-driven dramas (the Jackie's "Who Am I?" And "New Police Story" staged). Consequently, the central part of the film slows down considerably with subplots of Jackie Chan and Louis Koo characters, both of which behave in an act of selfishness on the first and then begin, as mother and father of the kidnapped baby. The plot is predictable and overly long, and you can tell this non-action sequencescould remain in the finished version, but is not part of the drama bad as you might think. (By the way, the episode is about the disease of Fong's father was a part of the real event that her mother Jackie's happened, and this is his acting career, which is stronger than usual to explain.

It's amazing, Jackie Chan (52 years old, remember?) On display is still nimble and stunts, but also the obvious use of special effects in some disappointing actions cansome fans. This is not to say that his stunts are not dangerous - see end credit bloopers, and you know it - but well-choreographed as they are, action sequences would have been much better with new ideas such as have more original use of props.

Comic Thesp Michael Hui is always funny, and Louis Koo shows some great action stunts. "Rob-B-Hood" also stars familiar faces in Hong Kong movies such as Yuen Biao, cute Charlene Choi, Gao Yuanyuan nice plus from the Chinese mainland. Many CameoPerformances by Hong Kong film industry would excite the fans, but the biggest scene stealer of the film is, of course, Matthew and baby Matthew Medvedev, who is actually nominated as Hong Kong Film Award for Best New Performer.

"Rob-B-Hood" is quite entertaining popcorn movie with great set pieces. There is technically nothing new story, but it delivers with its real stars, exciting promotions and the adorable baby on Sale!

Better than your average sequel, Shanghai Knights almost defies the law of diminishing returns. Lacking the freshness of Shanghai Noon, it compensates with a looser, disposable plot that plays to the strengths of costars Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson. It's 1887, and odd-couple heroes Chon Wang (Chan) and Roy O'Bannon (Wilson) are in London to retrieve the Imperial Seal of China, stolen by an English lord (Aidan Gillen) who killed Wang's father in his quest for the British throne. Wang's lithe and lovely sister (Fann Wong) joins the battle with high-kicking force, appealing to Roy's roguish charm and surfer-dude anachronisms. While Chan continues his transition to safer stunts and good-natured homage to Buster Keaton, Gene Kelly, and other Hollywood legends, Wilson indulges the party vibe to good effect, maintaining the anything-goes approach that allows silly encounters with Jack the Ripper, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and a Dickensian urchin named Charlie Chaplin. ±8± Best Buy While I am not saying that the film is forgettable, I say that I have seen to forgotten-until I saw it today. Now I remember parts of it from before.

In particular, it is a comedy / martial arts piece with Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson. It is a worthy successor to the original. Much more action, comedy and loose women talk like that. The pillow fight seemed completely alien, and quite amusing. Although it obviously was the most dangerous scene in the film becausethe springs are inhaled and did not want to come ... Weird!

The picture quality is great. The soundtrack is good. In fact, the soundtrack is kind of funny, and quite amusing at several points, if only for the choice of songs ...

Yup, I'm still a fan of Jackie Chan for the movie. In fact, the Shanghai Noon / Shanghai Knights and Rush Hour series are some of his better films. The Myth and The Forbidden Kingdom are damn good. on Sale!

To review a Jackie Chan film is to admit that one has too much time on one's hands. A more futile gesture is hard to imagine: I doubt anyone has ever decided whether or not to see a Chan movie based on anything so trivial as a review or critique, and with good reason: Chan's track record speaks for itself. Over the past three decades, he's churned out dozens of martial arts extravaganzas which have delighted audiences all over the world, making him one of Asia's biggest (and richest) stars. Chan fans, a group I count myself part of, go to see his films not because of their breathtaking intellect, but because we enjoy seeing the Master kick a little ass, and make us laugh while he does so. Who cares what the critics think?

Chan is a rare breed: a hybrid who possesses not only stunning physical grace but also a sly streak of self-depreciating humor-- he's not one of those buff Ah-nold clones, and that's part of his appeal: he looks like "everyman," and his characters use their wits (and a dash of good ol' dumb luck) to pull themselves out of the dire situations they continuously find themselves in. In that regard, his performances parallel the great silent comedians of cinema's earliest days: both Chaplin and Buster Keaton are acknowledged by Chan as major influences.

The plot of "Twin Dragons," made in 1992 but just released in America, consists of the usual silliness: some bad guys are running around Hong Kong, and only some tightly-edited kung-fu and astonishing stunt work by Chan can make the streets safe again. The twist this time is that Jackie plays two roles, a pair of identical twin brothers separated at birth. One grows up to be a master martial artist named Boomer, a tough guy raised in the hard streets of Hong Kong. His twin, John Ma, is a revered classical pianist and conductor, educated in the finest schools and possessing no martial arts ability. Having no prior knowledge of each other's existence, both men are soon mistaken for their twin, leading to some predictable but amusing fish-out-of-water comedy (Boomer being forced to conduct a symphony orchestra (one of Chan's all-time great comedic scenes), the wimpy Ma being forced to duke it out with the bad guys, etc.)

It's silly to even consider commenting on the story itself; the dialogue and obligatory love tangents (one of which features Maggie Cheung, Chan's co-star in "Supercop") are here only to give the action sequences something to alternate with. Suffice it to say that this isn't "Casablanca," nor is it intended to be. It succeeds at what it attempts to do: take the audience on a wild ride through some hilarious and tense moments, with barely a moment to catch one's breath. It's a winner on two levels: this is not only the tightest Chan movie I've yet seen... it's also the funniest.

The only major disappointment with "Twin Dragons" is the fact that there are no bloopers or outtakes attached to the final reel. (For those of you not in the know, Chan makes it a policy to include a number of humorous outtakes intermixed with the end credits of each of his movies, showing flubbed lines and stunts.) It's a long-standing tradition, and I'm perplexed as to why these were not included with this American release of the film. With such impressive stunts, the outtakes are no doubt fascinating.

I thought this film was incredible. The feel of the period was captured faithfully. The cinematography was pretty impressive in parts (especially the opening scenes of the train) and the action was unbelievable. Each fight scene is better than the last. I could go on with the superlatives but you're better off to buy this film and see for yourself. If you are the slightest bit interested in Jackie Chan or martial arts movies you will not be disappointed.
